📖 About this place

Monpura is a small island upazila in the Meghna estuary with rows of casuarina and keora trees. Walking around shows rice fields, fishing hamlets and a small bazaar. At sunset red light spreads across the river. Because storms are a risk, the islanders live a resilient life.

🚌 How to go

From Bhola town a trawler or speedboat takes 2–3 hours for about BDT 300–800. Going from Dhaka via Bhola in two legs, allow 12–14 hours in total.

A few small guesthouses charge BDT 500–1,500 a night.

Fresh hilsa, prawns and simple village rice-and-fish meals are available.
