Barishal is the main city of the south, often nicknamed the Venice of Bengal. Built along the Kirtankhola river, it is surrounded by canals, large ponds and old buildings. Almost every southern district is reachable from here, which makes it a popular base for travel.
🚌 How to reach from Dhaka
Overnight launches from Dhaka's Sadarghat take 8–10 hours, with deck fares of about BDT 300–500 and cabins at BDT 1,500–4,000. Buses from Gabtoli or Sayedabad take 5–7 hours for BDT 600–1,200. Flights from Dhaka take about 40 minutes and cost BDT 3,500–7,000.
